What is USA for UNHCR?
USA for UNHCR or United States Association for UNHCR, is a 501(c) (3) non-for-profit organization headquartered in Washington D.C., that works to protect refugees and empower them with hope and opportunity.
For more than 30 years, we have supported UNHCR's operations around the world to deliver lifesaving essential assistance and protection to people displaced by violence, conflict and persecution as they rebuild their lives. We also help raise awareness of refugee needs and provide ongoing support to displaced communities in the United States.
Is USA for UNHCR a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and are my donations tax-deductible?
Yes, USA for UNHCR is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and 100% of your donation is tax-deductible.
Can I use USA for UNHCR’s tax exemption for costs associated with planning a fundraiser?
Third-party event organizers cannot use USA for UNHCR’s tax exemption status in connection with the event. However, we can provide an authorization letter confirming the organizer’s intent to raise funds for USA for UNHCR.

Need a Tax Receipt?
If you donated online, you will receive an email confirmation of your gift immediately, as well as an official receipt in the mail in 1-2 weeks from when your gift is processed.
If you donated a one-time gift through the mail, you will receive your receipt within 1-2 weeks of when your gift arrives and has been fully processed.
If you are a monthly donor, you will receive a tax receipt with the sum of your annual donations at the end of each fiscal year, usually around late January or early February.
If you gave a donation of stock, and have not received a tax receipt, your gift may not have been transferred with contact information, so please contact dhall@usaforunhcr.org with details about your stock gift and we will provide you with a receipt.

Can I make tribute gifts in someone else’s name?
Yes, you can make gifts on behalf of someone else by choosing one of the options on our gift catalog and emailing a card to whomever you choose. If you’d like to customize your tribute gift to a greater degree, please contact our Supporter Relations team by submitting a case below, and we’d be happy to help.
Can I change the frequency of mail I receive?
Absolutely, we’d be happy to adjust the frequency of mailings sent to your address. If you prefer to receive mail quarterly, bi-annually, once a year, or even not at all, please contact us through the form below and we’d be happy to make those adjustments for you.
Please be advised, will be able to best serve you if the address you enter in the form is exactly the same as what you receive in mailings, and that due to our mail production process, it can take several weeks for any mailing preference changes to be fully put in place.
Can I support individual refugees or asylum seekers?
USA for UNHCR was created in 1989 to inform the American people of the work of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the needs and circumstances of refugees around the world. USA for UNHCR protects refugees and empowers them with hope and opportunity.
We are authorized by UNHCR to raise funds and awareness, and to advocate for refugees in the United States. USA for UNHCR is not authorized to work with refugees and asylum seekers regarding any status, protection or asylum requests.

How is my donation used?
USA for UNHCR is committed to using your money as efficiently and effectively as possible to help refugees in need. When USA for UNHCR is fundraising for a specific emergency or crisis, 100% of designated restricted donations will apply to that particular emergency or crisis. Should USA for UNHCR raise funds in excess of what is required to respond to that particular crisis, the remaining funds are redirected to where the need is greatest.
USA for UNHCR is BBB Accredited Charity and a Guidestar Platinum Participant non-profit organization.

We make every effort to ensure that the generous donations given to USA for UNHCR are collected and put to use quickly, providing urgent support where it is needed most. As such, we typically do not honor refund requests but in the most extraordinary of circumstances, and within 60 days of the gift.
