Everyone can make a difference

A tremendous amount of work has been done to aid the areas hardest hit by the earthquake. Over 500,000 houses were destroyed and another 270,000 damaged. Thanks to you and the rest of our donors, UNHCR has delivered 45,000 plastic sheets and 8,000 solar lamps.

Additional activities include:

UNHCR is supporting a team of 12-15 refugees from Bhutan in a project to help local Nepalese families affected by the earthquake in two villages in Ramechap District. These skilled refugees will construct two small model shelters and provide direct support for over 20 households to construct similar transitional shelters using local materials and techniques and plastic sheeting provided by UNHCR.

UNHCR's psychosocial radio program will be extended for another month. It has reached some 3 million people and according to many earthquake-affected families, it has been a lifeline helping to answer incredibly difficult questions and allowing for a safe space for discussions on anxiety and trauma.
