Resettlement is part of a refugee’s journey and while USA for UNHCR does not resettle refugees, we support programming that helps make the U.S. a more welcoming place by:
USA for UNHCR is raising awareness and understanding about the unique experience of resettled refugees in America by providing support for the following initiatives:
Hello Neighbor: A non-profit that unites refugees and their new community by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them. The mentorship program helps refugee families engage on life skills and in cultural opportunities together. The pilot program launched in Pittsburgh in 2017 and there are plans to expand to other U.S. cities.
KIND (Kids in Need of Defense): A pro bono legal defense non-profit that provides counsel for unaccompanied children entering the U.S. and advocates for reforms that ensure unaccompanied children receive fair and appropriate treatment in immigration proceedings. KIND also helps children returning to their home reintegrate back into their community.
Refugee Congress: A refugee-led group comprised of one delegate from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Delegates advocate within their state and collectively at the national level to promote the well-being, integration and dignity of all refugees the U.S
